Avocado price: which reference are you comparing?
There is no single avocado price for every market. To interpret a quote, identify the market, report date, currency, unit or package, variety and size. A number without those details can confuse an orchard purchase with a wholesale sale or a consumer price.
United States wholesale markets
USDA terminal reports describe wholesale sales at a specific market. Check city, origin, variety, size and package. A Los Angeles reference does not equal a McAllen reference and does not, by itself, describe the price received by a Mexican grower.
Wholesale markets in Mexico
SNIIM publishes agricultural product prices in Mexican wholesale markets. Select the market and date, identify the avocado variety and read the sale unit. Do not automatically compare a domestic per-kilo price with a box quoted in another market.
Buying avocados at the orchard
An orchard price reflects a negotiated purchase at origin. It depends on lot conditions and the agreement: quality, availability, harvesting, transport and payment terms. A wholesale reference helps establish market context but does not replace the quote agreed with the grower.

How to compare two quotes
First compare the same market type, variety, size, quality and package. Note the date, currency and commercial terms. If an offer is per box, confirm its weight before comparing it with a per-kilo quote. The exchange rate adds context; it does not remove differences in freight, handling or distribution.
